Doi Mae Salong, deep in the heart of the renowned "Golden Triangle" area of northern Thailand, is steeped in recent history. Established less than 60 years ago, this Yunnanese-style village stretches for a couple of miles along the top of a 6000 ft mountain ridge-line.
The village commenced life around 1964 as home to the 'lost' 93rd Regiment of the Chinese Republican Army. After the Chinese Civil War, which ended in 1949, remnants of the anti-Communist KMT (Kuomintang) refused to surrender, and most escaped to Taiwan.
