Doi Mae Salong /Santikhiri

Doi Mae Salong, deep in the heart of the renowned "Golden Triangle" area of northern Thailand, is steeped in recent history. Established less than 60 years ago, this Yunnanese-style village stretches for several kms along a 6000 ft mountain ridge.

The village commenced life around 1961 as home to the 5th Regiment of the 'lost' 93rd Division of the Chinese Nationalist 26th Army. After the Chinese Civil War, which ended in 1949, remnants of the anti-Communist KMT (Kuomintang) refused to surrender, and most escaped to Taiwan.
